Noise and flowers in the garden

Work this morning was rather nice in that I was really appreciating my surroundings. I was working around a few lemon-scented gums (Corymbia citriodora). You can read more about this tree here if you would like to know more.

Flowers I usually enjoy from a distance

They are currently flowering her in Sydney, which is always lovely, but usually from a distance as they are tall trees. While I was working, there were so many rainbow lorikeets spending time in the trees-you could tell mainly by the noise! They may be small, very cute and delightfully colourful, but they are very loud for their size. I love seeing them around, they are one of my favourite birds.

Small, cute, colourful, bloody noisy and destructive-the rainbow lorikeet, a favourite bird of mine!

As well as all the noise, colour and feathery cuteness, they are a little destructive around flowering gum trees-there was a constant shower of flower stamens and small branches with leaves and flowers attached. All thanks to the activity in the bigger branches of the tree.

Lemon-scented gum flowers

This allowed me to have a look at the flowers of one of these lemon-scented gums. They are white and typical Myrtaceae family-showy stamens all the way. There were a few flowers just opening up, and some flower buds too.

I really enjoy seeing the use of Australian native trees in gardens where there is space. The trees look good and they attract the rather feral, but utterly wonderful, wildlife that call this country home.
