Flower Friday

Spring has definitely started springing now here in Australia. Plants are starting to grow again which means I’m going to be busy! Here are my flowers, and other plants of the week.

The tree aeonium, or Aeonium arboreum ‘Zwartkop’ is an interesting looking plant anyway with its very dark purple-black leaves. This is the first time I’ve seen one flowering-the bright yellow flowers are a really good contrast to the leaves. I think it looks really good.

The giant spear lily (Doryanthes palmeri) has really good-looking flowers. I love these flowers too, showy, bright and massive. If you want to know more, read about it here https://flat-cap-gardener.com/2025/08/05/doryanthes-palmeri-common-spear-lily/.

The gymea lily (Doryanthes excelsa) is another plant with a big flower, but you rarely get to see them close up due to being so tall.

These flowers belong to a species or cultivar of Indian hawthorn (Raphiolepis). The whole plant was covered in these white flowers. The bees were all over them.

Murraya flowers are some of the strongest smelling flowers that I come across in spring.

Tulips are a sign of spring for many. These are a selection that I came across today I came across in Canberra today.

That’s my week in flowers in the sun and warmth.
