Flower Friday-23/10/26

The flowers for this week are colourful with many different shapes. I like the variety. We have had both lovely, sunny days and wet, grey ones.

The lovely Australian native ‘scurvy weed’ (Commelina cyanea). I love the colour of the flowers, which are starting to come out in droves now the weather is warming up.

Here is the amazingly colourful flower of the Costa Rican butterfly vine (Dalechampia dioscoreifolia). I have only ever seen this lovely vine at my current workplace, and one the I enjoy seeing on my daily travels through my workday.

I can’t resist a nasturtium or two at the moment. At work, there are so many bright orange ones making the most of the warmer weather we have been having.

I also had to include some of my own nasturtiums. All of mine are also enjoying the weather too!

This lovely flower is false African Violet (Streptocarpus saxorum), which is a new plant for me, coming from Kenya and Tanzania. It grows up the same fence as the Costa Rican vine above. The contrast between the pink and purple flowers is one that I like.

I also have a couple of birds of paradise, from two different species. First up is Strelitzi regainae with its bright orange flowers. Usually in this spesies, you have single flowers, but every now and then a double flower appears, like the one below.

Orange and blue is always cheerful on these flowers

The flowers of the giant bird of paradise (Strelitzia nicoli). They are less colourful and usually far higher up as the plants get so tall. Thankfully, these were low enough to get a good shot of them.

Finally for today, are some potato flowers. They do look very pretty. All the way through my childhood, my grandad grew potatoes and I never once remember seeing the flowers. I’m enjoying seeing this nice addition to my garden.

That’s all for my flowers of the week. All that’s left is to wish you a fruitful weekend of gardening.
