As any regular readers know, I love going on bush walks. Over the last weekend, I went on two. They were both in Lane Cove National Park, which is the closest national park to home and only five minutes away to the closest access point. I love walking through here because of the peace and quiet and the sounds of wildlife (mainly birds) all around me.

I’m not actually sure what this little flower is from. All I know is that it is really pretty and was the first flower I saw along the way.

I have to say now that on both walks, I was loving all the banksia flowers that are around at the moment. They really are one of my favourite flowers.

Another banksia that I saw flowering was this heath banksia, with its orange flower. You can read about it here if you are interested.

There are lots of reasons for loving the bush in Australia, but one of them is that there are so many plants that flower over the autumn and winter here, including these pretty purple flowers. Again, I don’t know what it is, but I will find out this week and let you know what it is-I just haven’t had the time yet!

Acacia flowers are also coming into their own at this time of year (autumn). There are many shades of yellow from the very bright to the more subtle, like the ones below. I wish I could share the smell with you-its one of my favourites!

I can’t go for a walk through this national park and its sandy soils without showing some love to Sydney red gums, my favourite tree. This is because of the colour of the bark. Love them. If you are interested, look here for some information.

For the sake of giving other gum trees some love, here is another trunk. Oddball that I may be, this still looks really good.

I think the next photo is my photo of the weekend. At the moment, the autumn light in Sydney is really good for taking photos. I think the light is really good hitting the bark and going through the leaves.

There are lots of wonky trees around too-straight trees are rather bland and boring! Seeing wonky trees like this one is always interesting.

Grass trees, Xanthorrea genus, are a strange group of plants. This one looks really happy her, although you can’t see the trunk. I want to learn more about this particular genus of plants, once I find the time!

I love a strange looking fruit. The fruit of the genus Hakea are always strange. I will again have to do some research on the exact species, but strange plants are good.

That is the end of my walks through Lane Cove National Park. I will be going on more walks through national parks and other areas of the bush near me over the next few weeks, as well as re-visiting my favourites here and there. I am lucky that I have lots of places I gan go to and explore.
