Ladybirds at work

Today, I quite enjoyed looking at the ladybirds as I was working away in the garden beds. There were so many around this morning, which I was really happy about.

I don’t know much about the life cycle of ladybirds, so seeing them all got me thinking that I should learn more about them when I get chance.

Ladybird larvae

What I do know is that ladybirds love aphids as one of several sources of food. Adults can eat around 25 aphids each day, while larvae have been seen to consume more than 200 aphids each day. That is amazing to me, as they are rather small, as you can see from the photo above.
