The one thing I enjoy more than anything about my job at the moment is the wildlife I see around the place getting on with its business. As it is spring, lots of things are getting busy to welcome babies, most noticeably the birds.

Magpies, which are native here in Australia, are well known at this time of year for ‘swooping’ at people to protect their nests. They do recognise the regular people within their surroundings, but it is still amusing to watch (that may make me a bit mean). I saw one magpies swoop at a rather cute waddling of ducks (the term used when a group of ducks are on the ground, on water, they are called a ‘puddling’ apparently) and a little while later a group of mina birds swooping a magpie. We also get cockatoos, kookaburras, galahs, and lorikeets amongst others.

There are also lots of dragon flies buzzing around too. I can’t catch a photo or video as they always move too quickly to catch them. I’ve seen ladybirds and aphids too. Spiders, bees and butterflies-most of which I can’t catch a phot of neither!

The reason I love seeing wildlife is that, no matter what it is I’m watching at the time, is that they behave as if humans are irrelevant. They are quite happy without us, which is as it should be!

I found this random bug at Sydney botanic gardens on Saturday. As is usually the case, I’ve no clue what it is, but it’s an interesting looking thing!

While not technically ‘wild’, this little sweetheart is a bit feral. She also couldn’t care less about any human nonsense like ‘feelings’ and ‘egos’. As long as the belly is full, chin tickles are available and she has someone to boss around, then Cuddles the cat is happy! Plus, she likes helping in the garden.
