Thankfully we have rain

Today we have finally got some rain. It was forecast to come early afternoon, but didn’t come until early evening. One thing do have to say is that the humidity was a killer this afternoon-it felt like the most humid it’s been since spring started. The temperature was only 25 degrees Celsius but it felt so much hotter!

The rain is much needed though. Recently, we have only had a couple of millimetres here and there, which does nothing for my gardens. We could honestly do with a couple of weeks of solid rain, just to soak the ground through again without needing to use any extra irrigation. So far at home, we have had 9 mm of rain with more coming on the weather radar which is good.

With rain water it is better for plants than potable water. Some of this is down to the fact that rainwater soaks into the soil better than any fancy irrigation set up you may have. I’m not really sure why this is, it’s just an observation I have. Potable water also has stuff like fluoride and chlorine added to it which can affect plants adversely over time. If we have rain this isn’t an issue.

We are forecast to get more rain every day this week, which makes the idea of going to work a rather unpleasant one as work gets rather boring when it’s too wet to work!

On the plus side, this rose was looking rather good in the sun earlier today.
