Today has been quite a long day, due to working by myself all day. So, as I was pottering, I thought I’d talk about some of what I do in my day-to-day life as a horticulturist in Sydney.
Work at this time of year can be a bit slower as temperatures are lower so plants don’t grow as quickly. I have done many of the jobs that you only do when there is little other work to run around and get done, which includes:
- Picking up the sticks that always fall from surrounding trees.
- Weeding underneath hedges-it’s amazing how much grass you can pull out from here!
- Clearing out dead/dying plant material from garden beds, ready for new plants to go in.
While work can be a bit boring and slow sometimes over autumn and winter, it is still great to be outdoors every day. In Australia, there are always flowers appearing somewhere at all times of year, just like this hibiscus below, where the colours are fabulous!

One response to “What have I got up to today?”
Beautiful.
