A hot week at work has its rewards

At the end of a busy week of hot weather, it will be nice to enjoy my weekend off. Despite the heat and business, below are my highlights.

Below are the leaves of a native Australian tree with the common name of Bleeding Heart, its binomial name being Homalanthus populifolius. This is one of my favourites as I really like the leaf shape and the bright red colour of the old leaves.

Above is a rose that I saw yesterday looking great in the sunshine.

Below are some Photinia flowers to go with the red new growth.

Below are some Strelitzia nicolai flowers. While not as colourful as their smaller relative, they still have the same interesting shape and a subtle colour palette of blue and white.

Below are the pretty flowers of Pandora jasminoides, an Australian native also called bower vine.

With its bright red flowers, the Callistemon (bottlebrush) below is ready to put on a great show this spring.

Below is another bottlebrush, with white flowers instead of red.

flowers

Below is a Grevillea spp. flower. I have to say that these flowers are one of my all-time favourites as they are so different to what I grew up with in England.
