Flowers of my week…a day early

After a very busy week so far, I thought I would do my flowers of the week a day early. Why not?

First up today is a plant that I have never seen before, it’s called common salsify or Tragopogon porrifolius. It’s seeds must have been brought in on a bird or other such critters from somewhere else. I really like the purple flower. Common salsify is native to south-eastern Europe and North Africa.

Lavender is always lovely in a garden, even though this particular garden bed is a random mix of all sorts of plants. Lavender smells nice, looks good, is loved by bees and is a tough plant to have around in the heat of summer.

The giant bird of paradise (Strelitzia nicholi)flower is lovely. More than anything, I like the shape of these flowers as they are unusual.

Next up is the flower of the walking iris or Neomarica gracilis. I think that this is my flower of the week as I love the colours.

Jacaranda flowers are out and about in force around Sydney at the moment. Purple is one of my favourite colours and it’s nice to see the splashes of purple as I travel around getting on with my day.

These are the cute little flowers are from New Zealand flax, Phormium tenax. I haven’t seen the flowers of these plants before so it’s nice to see them. I also saw some bees around, so I wasn’t the only one enjoying the flowers.

I’m including these four variations on the daisy, mainly because of the colourful flowers. I like all of these flowers because they are so colourful cheery.

These are my flowers from my week so far. I’m sure there will be more to come over the next few days.
