I have been out in my garden again today. I have had a productive morning getting things a little more organised again after we had a storm last night.
With the heavy rain in the brief storm last night, my tomatoes were a little wonky. I went out and staked all of them, so they are now standing up straight. Beyond being a little flattened, all of these plants were otherwise unharmed. While tying the tomatoes to the stakes, I saw some flower buds, which got me really excited because it means I will get some tomatoes soon. Tomatoes are one of my favourites.

About a month ago I brought home a salvia that was looking a little sorry for itself. I am pleased to say that the said salvia is looking a lot happier now that it’s been re-potted and is getting a little care. It has put on plenty of new growth and has several flower buds. I’m looking forward to seeing these flowers when they open fully.

My little melon plant is growing a little more now, with a couple of new leaves growing. I am hoping that, this summer, I can finally have a home-grown melon.

On the already sown seed front, two new little seedlings have appeared overnight. All I can say is that they are either chillies, tomatoes or capsicums. Which of the three they are, I cannot say at this moment, but I’m happy to see them!
I have also sown some more seeds this morning:
- Chilli ‘Habanero Mustard’
- Capsicum ‘Seven Colour Mix’
- Spring Onion ‘Evergreen Trident’ and ‘Red’
- Sweetcorn ‘Golden Bantam’
I am not sure whether the sweetcorn seeds will germinate or not as I got them last year, but it is worth a try. Sweetcorn is one of those plants whose seeds need to be fresh to germinate well, but I am willing to give these ones a go.
This leads me nicely on to the seeds I purchased this morning. As I would really like to have some sweetcorn this summer, I have ordered some more, along with some chillies and capsicums. Are is what I have ordered:
- Sweetcorn ‘Glass Gem’ and ‘True Gold’
- Chilli ‘Padron’
- Capsicum ‘Mini Sweet Mix’
That is my gardening for today. I am happy that the sun is shining again after last night’s storm, although it is rather humid (80% as I write), which can be hard work to deal with!
Until next time, happy gardening!
