Every weekend, I love heading out on my bush walks, including down in Lane Cove National Park. As it is only five minutes from home, I don’t have to travel far to enjoy one of my favourite walking routes.
My favourite trees are Sydney red gums. I love the colour of the bark, the fact that they shed bark every year (although I do find it random) and how the branches always look a little contorted.

As I was walking past the area the has recently been burnt, it is good to see plenty of new growth appearing. In this photo, it looks like these little wispy bits of green are new grass trees.

I don’t know what species of tree this is, but it is good to see the new growth appearing on it all the same.

I like to have a good nosey at any new insects that I see. These ones are the nymphs of a jewel bug. I will have to do some more research to find the exact species and more information on this species as I don’t know anything about them.

This delightful little bird is an eastern spinebill. (Acanthorhynchus tenuirostris). It was enjoying a good drink of nectar from this bottle brush that was flowering brightly in the sun on Sunday.

I would never have seen the bird above if it wasn’t for these bright red flowers. I saw the bright red in the corner of my eye. They really stand out against the green around them.

On this dwarf apple (Angophora hispida), the new growth is looking great in the sun. I don’t think it will be long before they are flowering away. I am determined to get plenty of photos once the flowers appear.

Callicoma serratifolia is a lovely small tree that is busily flowering away at the moment. i enjoy seeing the fluffy flowers every year.

Finally for today is the grey spider flower, which I think has to be my favourite grevillea. i think the flowers are great as they look so different to most others.

New growth, a new bird and a new insect in one walk is an interesting walk for me. One that I enjoyed immensely. I always enjoy my walks in Lane Cove National Park.
