My Sunday Garden

Today, I haven’t done any actual gardening beyond doing the watering as the temperature has got up to 31.7 degrees Celsius, so rather warm. We are forecast to have some storms this evening, but whether we get them or not is another matter-we either get a great storm or it goes right round us on the hill.

My nasturtiums are still flowering like crazy, especially my ‘Orchid Cream’ variety. I am so happy that I sowed their seeds when I did. They are so bright and colourful, with a really nice shape too.

My beans are a little bigger than they were. I don’t know whether I’ll get massive bean pods or not. It is worth keeping them for the moment as they are also continuing to produce flowers. If nothing else, there will be things to learn from any failures, more so than the successes!

My beans so far

I sowed several Brussels sprout ‘Long Island’ seeds a few months ago (July, I think). I did have seven or eight seedlings at one point, but now have only two. They were potted up a couple of weeks ago into their final positions and both are growing really well. One of them looked a little dog-eared and is still the smaller of the two, but it is starting to grow really well now it has the space and few snails.

All my tomato plants are growing really well. Every time I look at them, they are bigger, even from the day before. I must be doing something right at the moment, which is a good thing.

Tomatoes

The potato plants are producing plenty more flowers. I am enjoying seeing the mass of foliage that has been produced. I already know that I am having more success with these potatoes compared to last year as the plants are far larger and many of them now have flowers. I don’t know whether I’m looking forward to my potatoes or tomatoes more. I’ll let you know once I’ve done a taste test!

I also came across a couple of alpine strawberries. I do have to say they didn’t taste of much. I’m not sure whether that is because they haven’t had enough sun or something else, but I was a little disappointed. If I get any more, I think I’ll leave them a little longer before trying them.

Alpine strawberries

That’s all for my garden walk-around for the day. I am going to continue to do little jobs throughout the week so that I don’t have a huge number to do over the weekend-I do like to keep that time for relaxing!

Until next time, happy gardening!
