A Wednesday walk in the garden

Today I had a walk around the garden after I got in from work. Today has been a bit cooler so my glamorous assistant Cuddles decided to stay inside and warm her belly on her heated mat instead.

I’ll start with my potatoes which are growing fabulously well. I am so happy with them at the moment. I will enjoy my first proper crop of potatoes when they are ready in a few months.

With my broad beans, they are flowering well, although one plant has a little storm damage from Monday evening. I couldn’t see any small bean pods, but that probably takes a little more time. Patience is a virtue apparently and I just need to remember that!

I also found a snail on my beans today. This got removed promptly and placed out the back instead. I didn’t see any other snails today.

I did mention this very small broccoli plant the other day. While I knew that it was very unlikely that I’d be eating any of it, I am happy I left it to grow. I like to see what happens with things are left to grow. I noticed that this yellow flower opening up on my little walk. It will look lovely when all the flowers are open.

All my seedlings are growing well indoors at the moment. While we had a really warm day over the weekend, the weather has turned cooler again over the past few days. This makes me really glad that I have kept my seedlings inside so far as I am determined to have more success with my veg this year compared to last year.

Over the coming weekend, I will be doing some more seed sowing and potting up. My remaining Brussels sprouts, spring onions and leeks all need potting up. For my seed sowing, I will sow some of the following:

  • Tomatoes-Tommy Toe, Blue Berries and Nonna Peppinas
  • Cucumber-Spacemaster
  • Capsicums-California Wonder
  • Chillies-Maui Purple and Early Jalapeño
  • Rudbeckia-Prairie Sun and Sahara

That should keep me busy, which is far from a bad thing. I will have to find some sort of space somewhere inside to put these seeds once they are sown. My little table where I have my seedlings is full at the moment, so I’ll have to think about what space is best over the next couple of days.
