Potting up and seed sowing

This morning, I got out into the garden early. I wanted to get my jobs done early as I will be going put later-if I procrastinate, nothing ever gets done! So, here is what I’ve done today along with a general garden update.

The first thing I did was potted up my sweet alyssum seedlings. They were growing really well in their old pots and needed some more space to continue growing. I got six strong seedlings, so as they grow further, they will get scattered around my garden. For now, they have plenty of space to grow.

My beans are continuing to grow well and have got a fair bit taller since I got back from Tasmania. I really am hoping to get some flowers on them soon!

There is plenty of growth on my broad beans

As you can see, my radish seedlings are still growing really well. They were only sown two weeks ago, so I am happy with this progress.

My peas are doing well, even if growth is a little slow at the moment. I really am hoping for a crop of peas this time-I love peas and have sown so many this winter, but the snails have been monstrous this winter and have destroyed all previous sowings. Thankfully, I didn’t see any snails today.

Just like my peas, this broccoli plant is growing well. It seems to be really happy in a pot with some nasturtiums at the moment. All my nasturtiums are growing well too-I can’t wait for the flowers to appear!

Again, my strawberry plants are growing well still. They continue to put on new growth, so I am hoping to see plenty of flowers in the spring!

A couple of weeks ago, I also sowed some Poppy Peony ‘Flemish Antique’ seeds. As you can see, I have plenty of little seedlings. It will be a job when it comes to potting these up, but the flowers will make it all worthwhile!

All the plants mentioned above got watered this morning. I added some seaweed solution to the water to give the plants a little extra help over the next few weeks. Next weekend, I’ll add some fertiliser to my pots where I can-by the middle of August, you can usually feel the weather starting to warm up, so many plants will enjoy the extra nutrition.

The final thing I have done this morning is to sow some seeds. I have started early because I want my plants to have a strong start before going outside and risk getting eaten by snails! I sowed the following:

  • Tomato varieties ‘Jaune Flamme’, ‘San Marzano’, ‘Wapsipinicon Peach’ and ‘Green Grape’
  • Chilli-‘Joe’s Long Cayenne’

These seeds will hopefully germinate indoors over the next few weeks and grow steadily. Once I have potted these ones up, I’ll start sowing some more.

That’s all for the day today. Until next time, happy gardening!
