I love walking around my garden on a frequent basis. There is always something different that I notice-this time it was the fact that my plants have grown again. It’s no more than two days since I walked through my y garden, but all my plants have grown since I last went out there.

All my brassicas are really happy and shooting up like there is no tomorrow. I live brassicas for the fact that I can get them to grow well at this stage and they seem really happy. I have learnt to be patient though. If I pot them up too small, then the snails will happily have a very good meal at my expense! I will leave these ones until they have more leaves on them before potting up.

My sweet alyssums need potting up this weekend. They have quietly been growing well in the background. They have also not had any snail damage so far, which is even better.

My radish seedlings look like they have doubled in size. I’m excited to try some of my radish when it’s ready as it reminds me of spending the day on my grandparents farm as a kid.

As for the snail hunting part of my gardening session, I found two today. That’s not too bad as it goes. I did spot a tiny bit of damage on my beans where the snails were located. Beyond that, I can’t really complain.

For the upcoming weekend, I am thinking of doing some more seed sowing. I have worked out what I want to grow over the spring and summer and want to get a head start on getting my plants going. You can read about what I will be growing here.

While it’s still winter here in Sydney, I want to be able to have good, strong plants to pot out by the time spring arrives. This is mainly in the hope that the snails will leave them alone, but also because I want to have a nice long growing season full of tomatoes, cucumbers and other vegetables. I am looking forward to getting busy sowing some seeds and potting things up. Both of these jobs are some of my favourite jobs in the garden because I love watching plants grow and develop over time.

I’m also going to get some of that cleaning up done this weekend. I keep telling myself that I will do it, but don’t as I always find something far more interesting to do instead!
