More Tasmanian travels

While travelling around Tasmania, I’ve been amazed at the variety of views I’ve seen, even in the space of one day travelling from one day to another. On the day in question, we went from Launceston to Wynyard, along the northern coast. The wind was freezing, but didn’t detract from the views.

I always love a good view across the sea to distant hills, like in the photo below. There is always the question of what is over there? There is usually something to see, whether it’s an odd little village or town or more decent views. As well as the potential to explore, the view is great, even if a little hazy!

Hazy views

I love eucalypt trees, especially in the sunshine. With the trees below, I love the different colours that the sun brings out, especially the green of the leaves.

A lot of the countryside we drove through along the coast was farmland. In a lot of ways, I was reminded of England with the patchwork of fields as we drove along and stopped for breaks from driving.

Fields and the sea

Many of the trees were rather windswept, like these two below. The wind adds character to trees in a lot of cases.

One thing that has stood out to me is the varied geology across Tasmania, something which is something I know nothing about. I will learn more through doing some reading, bit for now here are some cliffs.

Cliffs from a distance

Talking of geology, we stopped at a place called Doctors Rocks. These rocks come from some lava flows from active volcanoes around 12.5 million years ago. Here are three photos I took in this area.

When travelling through anywhere in Australia, there is often random things to be found, in this instance its train boilers and abandoned railways. I can’t remember what this place was called, but we were driving through mostly forest at this point on our travels. I love places like this, mainly for the random nature of the abandonment.

While we have had plenty of sunshine on this trip, we have also had plenty of fog and rain too. The only winter weather we haven’t seen is snow. To finish I will leave you with some foggy hills and a lake.

Foggy views have been a theme of this trip!

Great views, lots of fog and a relaxing drive were the theme of day three of our trip to Tasmania.
