Today has allowed me to see more wildlife while working, which is something I always enjoy. Today I have a couple of different species for you, with one definitely unexpected!

The first thing I saw was a butterfly, which was unexpected. We are now in the territory of early winter (depending on when you think winter starts) here in Sydney, so I wasn’t expecting a butterfly today!

This species is called a common crow butterfly, or Euploea corinna. It is native to the tropics of Australia, as well as a few places in Southern Asia. It sometimes appears as far south as Sydney, but breeding populations aren’t present this far south. Their habitat ranges from open forest/woodland, coastal areas, forest along rivers and in moist gullies. they feed on a range of plants, both native and exotic.

Next up is a cormorant enjoying the sunshine and watching the world go by. I normally see some of these birds in the distance near a shipwreck in the bay, so it was really nice to see one close up.

I could sit and watch the birds all day if I’m honest, but I did have work to be getting on with!
