Yesterday, I gave myself a list of things to be done in the garden over the next week. This list includes sowing the seeds of various plants that I do want to grow (but get eaten by various pests like snails), tidying up after the rain we’ve had and doing some pest control.
Today, I have done my seed sowing. I have sown the following seeds:
- Broad beans
- Pea ‘Franks Pea’
- Nasturtiums-‘Orchid Cream’ and ‘Purple Emperor’
- Poppy ‘Flanders Field’
- California poppy ‘Red Chief’
- Blue Sea Holly
- Cornflower-‘Classic Fantastic’ and ‘Black Ball’
That is more seeds than I was planning on sowing, but that isn’t always a bad thing in my eyes. I have decided that all these seeds, apart from the beans, peas and nasturtiums will be staying indoors until germinated and growing well. I am done with seedlings getting eaten by pests and this is one way that I can control the situation.
I have also started the job of tidying up. All the little coir pots that I use for starting my seeds and potting up seedlings that are empty have been cleared away.
I have also moved my sweet pea pots so that they will hopefully get more sun to encourage better growth, and hopefully more flowers!
Every day this week, I will be out doing some tidying up, if nothing else. The sweeping is the main thing I need to do. Pest control is another job to do every day, if needed. I have done some today, removing snails from the vicinity of several of my plants.
Later in the week, I will be getting some more potting mix. My onion seedling will need potting up soon. I also have a random alpine strawberry plant that is producing plenty of runners and I also want to pot them up and hopefully get some strawberries!
That is my gardening work done for the day, and my plans for the coming week. The weather forecast for the coming week is for mostly sunshine, with a little rain on Tuesday. The sun is definitely needed in my garden!
