Flower Friday-22/05/26

As always, I have some flowers for sharing this week. Here in Sydney, we are lucky because we have plants flowering all year-we don’t shut for winter!

It’s always hard to get really good photos of the flowers of the giant bird of paradise, Strelitzia nicholi. They are so high up and half hidden by the mass of stems, so I got this photo while I could!

Grevillea flowers are a continued favourite of mine, especially in these colours. They are so bright and cheerful and have an interesting shape.

I love the colours on show here

This delightful flower comes from Camellia ‘Silver Waves’. Yes, they are rather showy and a little ‘blousier’ than some would like. I like them, and think they look better in white than in pink or red.

These tiny little flowers come from the ti plant, Cordyline fruticosa.

To plant flowers

One trouble I have is that I struggle to identify Eucalyptus trees that I don’t come across that often. This is one of them. I have used some plant identification software that tells me this tree is Eucalyptus camaldulensis, or the river red gum. While the leaves do look like they could be, the trunk on this tree differs-whether that’s because this particular tree is still young, I don’t know. Either way, it is a very lovely tree, especially in flower.

One of my many aims is to get better at identifying Eucalyptus trees, I just don’t always have enough time! I’ll just have to make a little time after work to start looking into this wonderful (in my opinion) genus of trees.
