Flower Friday-01/05/26

We are into the last month of autumn here in Sydney. The weather is generally lovely-sunny, temperatures in the low twenties (in degrees Celsius) and it isn’t too humid. Here are my flowers of the week. I hope you enjoy!

As the camellia trees around Sydney are really coming into flower now, it would be rude not to include some for you today. I have one pink and one white, both of them at home-I walked past both on my way out this morning. I’m not sure of the exact cultivars, but both are really pretty.

I’m lucky to have these two camellias at home

Next up is the fried egg plant, Gordonia axillaris. This species of small tree is absolutely lovely. Around my local area, it’s used as a street tree to lovely effect. Not only are the flowers really nice, the tree has really attractive red-brown bark.

Commelina flowers are such a lovely shade of blue. it is a little weedy at times, but I do love this plant because of the flowers.

Indian hawthorn is a lovely plant that produces these lovely white flowers. While the main flowering season over, they still produce flowers randomly through the year.

These prnnisetum flower heads always look good in the early morning light. The effect is good when mass planted, like they are here.

Next up are the delicate yellow flowers of tulipwood, Harpulia pendula.

Birds of paradise flowers are a favourite of mine. Their shape is unique, the colour combo of blue and orange is a good one and they are loved by birds for their nectar.

That is my week in flowers. I am hoping to get out and about more over the next few weeks to find more plants looking good in the autumn and winter.
