Friday gardening, with help from Cuddles the Cat

One of my aims with my garden is that I get into the garden every day. This can just be for a walk around to see what is going on, or it can be doing some garden related jobs that need to be done. While I am not at work today, I want to go out into my garden when I get home from work too, as that is the only way that I will actually have any sort of productive garden, which is what I want.

Today’s first job was to get out and do the sweeping up, as it was desperately needed. I swept all the leaves and detritus up into piles, before I picked these up at the end. On looking over at the first pile I made, I saw my cute little assistant sat on top of it!

She loves a pile of dirt!

Cuddles makes me laugh. She is a rescue cat that we brought home when she was a kitten. I have always said that while we have adapted her so that she isn’t on the streets, she always has this feral streak in her where she loves dirt (and a chance for a fight with neighbouring cats when possible), even eight years later! While the patio does need a good power washing, the sweeping is done, for now!

The sweeping is done for the week

I have also made a list of the seeds that I want to sow over the next few weeks. Here is that list:

  • Onions-‘Amposta Purple’, ‘Australian Brown’, Bartletta’, and ‘Cream Gold’
  • Borage
  • Broccoli-‘Waltham’ and ‘Green Sprouting’
  • Brussels sprouts-‘Long Island’
  • Cauliflower ‘Mini’
  • Coast Pigface
  • Cornflower ‘Blackball’ and ‘Classic Fantastic’
  • Coriander
  • Cat grass
  • Purple Coral Pea
  • Sweet Peas-a mix of opened and unopened packets
  • Poppy-‘Flanders Field’ and ‘Pandora’
  • Peas-‘Greenfeast’ and ‘Pandora’
  • Nasturtium-‘Orchid Cream’
  • Broad beans-‘Aquadulche’

I did have a look yesterday to see if I had any seed raising mix left. I do, but not very much, so I have sown my first batch of the above seeds. I am not in a huge rush do any particular seeds, so it was a case of the first few packets that I came across, to match the number of pots available to sow into. Here is what I have sown today:

  • Cauliflower ‘Mini’
  • Pea ‘Greenfeast’
  • Poppy ‘Pandora’ and ‘Flanders Field’
  • California Poppy ‘Red Chief’
  • Cornflower ‘Classic Fantastic’
  • Onion ‘Cream Gold’, ‘Bartletta’, ‘Amposta Purple’ and ‘Australian Brown’
  • Borage
  • Brussels Sprouts ‘Long Island’
  • Broccoli ‘Waltham’

All seeds came from packets already open, which is a good thing for me. The packet of Brussels sprouts is now empty, so I’ll update my seed list as soon as I’ve finished writing. I’ve also labelled everything too, so I know exactly what is doing well and what is doing badly as I go along. This is something that I usually forget to do, and nearly did this time too, but remembered just before I tidied up my seed packets!

Another productive day in the garden, and another day of being happy with my progress. I just have to keep up with the momentum. Until next time, happy gardening!
