Grand plans, slow execution

On coming back home, I was looking forward to getting out into my garden and getting on with a list of things to do before going back to work on Monday. I wasn’t factoring in the fact that I would get sick on my return! While I cannot get outside for a few hours to get everything done in one or two gardening sessions, I have to take things a lot easier.

This morning, I decided that I would sow some of the sweet pea seeds that I purchased a month or so ago. I only had enough fresh potting mix to be able to sow five of the ten varieties that I have. Of the varieties that I have sown today, I have sown four seeds of each, so I am hoping for plenty of flowers. Below are pictures of what I’ll hopefully see over the next few months.

I still have five more lots of sweet pea seeds to sow, including the following varieties:

  • Matucana
  • High Scent
  • Solstice Crimson
  • Salstice Lavender
  • Beaujolais

I do have a long list of things I want to do, as well as looking after the plants that I have growing already. I still aim to get out every day, even if it’s only for five minutes as I do enjoy doing some pottering in the garden. Here are some of the things I’ll bet doing:

  • Tidying up-the most boring but essential of jobs. It includes sweeping up, removing any dead plant material and making sure all pots and tools are tidy
  • Going through my seed boxes and updating my seed spreadsheet. Not the most exciting of jobs either, but I need to do both so that I know what I have, what I need to use up first and just to be more organised.
  • Potting up my seedlings. This can be done in a few weeks when they have done some more growing. I’ll also have to get some more potting mix for this as I have now run out.
  • As my broad beans continue to grow, I need to carry on tying therm to their stakes. A nice easy five minute job.
  • As I have forgotten exactly what I put down, I will have to look back at my plans for autumn and winter. I want to see what seeds I wanted to sow, so that I can sow the ones that I haven’t sown yet, more of the ones that I want more of and some of the ones that have failed to get anywhere. This includes sowing the remaining sweet peas listed above.

This should keep me fairly busy for a while I think, especially as I don’t feel great today. Until next time, I wish you a productive and fruitful weekend.
