Flower Friday

Another hot and very busy week has now thankfully come to a restful end. Here are my weekly highlights.

Magnolia grandiflora is a common tree here in Sydney. The first picture today is of the unripe fruit of the tree. I quite like seeing these around, they are visually rather interesting.

These duranta flowers are really pretty. I do love the deep purple colour of these flowers, which is why I have included them today.

The bright yellow flower of the golden Guinea flower are fabulous in their cheery brightness. This has to be my flower of the week because of this bright colour. You can read about the golden Guinea flower Here.

The leaves of Camellia japonica are really pretty, especially the new growth which is pink in colour. This colouring helps protect the new growth from the harsh sunlight as these leaves mature.

Hydrangea flowers are the showy flowers that I used to think belonged to old ladies that had no place in a garden anywhere at all. As I’ve got older, I have grown to really like these flowers. While I’m not ‘old’, I may be old before my time based on my childhood ideas of what an ‘old lady’ flower is! Or they are just nice flowers.

Some more flowers that I love for the strong purple colour. This is tibouchina, or Pleroma urvilleanum. A lovely small tree that comes into its own when it flowers.

Pretty in purple

I will be able to enjoy the flowers of tibouchina for a few weeks at least, as this tree has lots of flower buds appearing all over, which I am really happy about.

That is my weekly plant highlights. I hope you have enjoyed them as much as I have.
