Happy new year!

As it is only the second day of the new year, the flowers are a little short on the ground for me over the past week, so I am including other plants today too.

First up is my half-opened dahlia flower. I am so proud of this flower. Of the five dahlias that I have tried growing, this is the only one that is still alive. Thank goodness it is now flowering! I hope you enjoy it too.

I love a good banksia flower when I see one. I saw this yesterday on a walk around Sydney with my family on what was a rather gloomy day.

Another group of colourful flowers in Sydney. These flowers did put a smile on my face as they are fabulously cheerful and bright.

I saw these trees next to this fairly old building. I liked the contrast between the natural and man-made.

Sweetcorn tassels are interesting up close. As a kid, I never paid any attention to the tassels of the corn growing on my grandparents veg patch, I only enjoyed eating the resulting corn. Now I can enjoy the eating as well as looking at the way plants go about making the tasty food!

The colours are great in my garden too. I am loving the purple colour of my beans.

Food comes in all sorts of colours and shapes. While not ready to eat yet, I do like the green colour of these tomatoes.

Finally for today, the fruit of this silky hakea is an interesting shape. As with most Australian natives, native plants, they have a little quirky something about them-with the Hakea genus, it’s their fruit, with each species having a slightly different shape.
