My gardening week

This weekend, I’ve had a weekend away so haven’t done as much as I could in the garden. What I have done was done during the week after work as I didn’t know what time I would get home today (Sunday)-we did make good time and got back home at just after one this afternoon.

So the first thing to say is that my potatoes are still growing fantastically well so I topped up the soil, again! That is a good thing-I love the fact that thy are thriving.

My happy potatoes

Other plants that are growing well include:

  • Tomatoes
  • Beetroot
  • Chilli
  • Peas
  • Sweetcorn
  • Coriander
  • Kale
  • Flowers of various kinds (although no flowers for a while yet-the plants are still far too small)
  • Nasturtiums are flowering well

As I have ended up with no pumpkin and been plants due to snails, I have sown some more this week. I just hope the hotter weather encourages them to stay away!

I am also happy to say that one of my dalia tubers has now shown its face. I am so happy about that, as I was a bit worried I wouldn’t have any at all! I’m hoping that over the next week or so the other two tubers will get some leaves up above the soil surface.

My one dahlia plant-I hope to get two more soon!

I have watered all my plants where needed and used some seaweed solution on one of my watering sessions as it helps plants with their growth and resistance to drought and pests, etc. That’s what a lot of people, and the packaging, says-I’m busy researching this subject and adding experience in my garden is a part of that, along with science. I’ll let you know what I find when I am finished with my reading.

This past week’s weather has again been really warm, if not too hot for anyone’s good! Our maximum temperature this week was 36.5 degrees Celsius, with the lowest temperature being 13.8 degrees Celsius. We haven’t had any rain over the week, but I do wish some had come as it is so dry now. Next week, we are forecast to get some-I just hope the forecast is correct!

That is my gardening week, nothing major or exciting but it isn’t all showy flowers, colourful veg or seed sowing!

  1. Your nasturtiums are a lovely colour! The beetroot also looks really healthy. I’ve struggled to grow this before, maybe I planted it too late.

    • Firstly, thanks!

The beetroot is actually some from last year that I missed, but is still growing really well. I thought I’d leaving and see what happens! Once the actual root parts are twice the size they are now, I’ll harvest them and see how they taste.

If you sow your beetroot seeds in early spring, then you may have more success.
