This weekend, I have been quite busy in my garden. I have been really enjoying my home gardening over the past few weeks as the sun is out and the weather is warming up. My plants are loving it as much I am.
On Saturday morning, I potted up some of the seedlings that have been growing really well. These were:
- Onions
- Spring onions
- Cauliflower
- Broccoli
- Brussels sprouts
- Cabbage
- Beetroot

I also pruned my one remaining avocado tree that I grew from seed about ten years ago, due to the fact that it was a little too leggy. It has never produced an avocado, and may well never do so, but because I grew this tree from seed I do have a soft spot for it.
Today (Sunday), I have done some more seed sowing. Some are repeat showings so that I can have an extended season of that particular crop, while others are different, either because slugs or snails polished them off or I just fancied growing some to eat. These include:
- Leeks-Bulgarian Giant
- Onion-Amposta Purple
- Spring Onion-evergreen Trident
- Silverbeet-Red Ruby
- Kale-Dwarf Blue Scotch
- Chilli-Early Jalapeño
- Tomatoes-Green Zebra, Tommy Toe and Pink Bumble Bee
- Capsicum-California Wonder

With my other plants, there is plenty of growth going on. My peas, beans, pumpkin and sweetcorn are all doing really well, both the seeds sown last weekend and the ones sown three or four weeks ago. My nasturtium ‘Purple Emporer’ is rally happy at the moment-there are so many flowers now, with plenty of flower buds waiting to open up to so I can enjoy them for a while yet! The rest of my little plants are almost ready to be potted up again, but that can wait until next week.

There is no sign of my potatoes or dahlias yet, but they were only planted last Sunday so I haven’t been waiting that long for something to happen.
The weather this week has been really nice and warm again. Our maximum temperature this week has was 29 degrees Celsius, with the minimum being 12.1 degrees Celsius. We haven’t had any rain this week at all, but a small amount is forecast for next week.
That is my week in gardening. Busy enough, but still enjoyable.
