Flower Friday

As always, spring is a great time of year for flowers, which is one of my favourite things about spring. Here are my flowers from my week.

This lovely tree is the Callery Pear, or Pyrus calleryana. This is one of several pear trees planted along the middle of the road and they look really nice together.

Rhododendron flowers are always really nice, including this pink one below. I’m not a huge fan of them as a whole as they always suffer from lace bug here in Sydney, but I do like the flowers-at this time of year they are the stars of the show.

Pretty in pink

This camellia is Camellia ‘Silver Waves’. Camellias are always nice shrubs and trees in the garden, and I wish that I had space for one in mine.

This lovely purple flower comes from purple heart (Tradescantia pallida). A rather tough plant here in Sydney that doesn’t need much care is a good thing. It also adds interest with its purple leaves, as well as its purple flowers. A little of purple heart in the garden can be a good thing, as long as it doesn’t take over completely!

Nasturtium flowers are always really pretty and have two today. I don’t have a specific ‘name’ for the orange-flowered one below-the straight species does have orange flowers, but there are some many different shades of orange available that it takes time to find the name for it-something I’ll try and do this weekend.

Orange nasturtium

This nasturtium is ‘Purple Emperor’ which I’m loving in my garden at the moment. My plant is covered in flowers at the moment and is currently the only thing flowering at the moment. These nasturtiums are my favourite because I don’t see them anywhere but in my garden.

I’ve not included a rose in a while, but I noticed this lovely peach one the other day.

Canna lilies always have great flowers. I like the bright red flowers, which is why I took the photo.

Canna indica flowers

Crown of thorns (Euphorbia millii) is quite an odd-looking plant, but I like it a lot. Tough, prickly and with lovely pink-red flowers there isn’t much you can’t like. If you want to know more about this plant, you can read my blog post here https://flat-cap-gardener.com/2024/12/12/crown-of-thorns-euphorbia-milii/.

Wax begonia (Begonia cucullata) is a rather cute little plant. I always like begonias as they are tough and good-looking.

Pig face is always a favourite plant of mine. A tough, Australian native ground cover plant with the brightest pink flowers going. It’s my favourite ground cover plant. I just wish there was more of it.

That is my week in flowers. Spring is well underway and the weather is really nice and warm, which I have to say that I’m enjoying after the cold of winter.
