Flower Friday

This is my weekly round-up of plants from a rather cold week in Sydney. By cold, I mean temperatures as low as five degrees Celcius overnight and maybe seventeen degrees during the day. I enjoy these temperatures far more than the summer ones, that’s for sure!

I saw these lovely orange nasturtium flowers on my way to the train station earlier today. I love the colour of the flowers in the sun and I like the shape of the leaves too.

Common vetch has these lovely pink-purple flowers, which are why I like it. This particular plant is in a lawn, where it is considered a weed. While I agree that it is (as a weed is a plant that you don’t want in that location), the question really is why is it there in the first place? The lawn in question is patchy and in poor condition, meaning the ‘weeds’ can take hold quite easy as the grass isn’t very strong. The good thing with common vetch is that, being a legume, it is able to add nitrogen to the soil (with the aid of bacteria), which will help the grass grow.

The is yellow flower from a snake vine (Hibbertia scandens). While the flower is nice enough, the plant itself is rather annoying where it is as it is growing through so many other plants to the detriment of these other plants, especially as the plant doesn’t look too healthy (the leaves are too yellow). It is getting removed over time when I’m in the area.

I di like the birds of paradise flowers. They are so colourful and the shape is so different to other flowers.

These little ragwort flowers are rather pretty too. When the lawn gets sorted out, the flowers will get removed, but for now they are rather cheerful.

This is my week in flowers and while not many, some flowers are better than none!
