My lack of winter gardening and plans going forward

This winter has been very woeful in my garden at home for a few reasons, varying from a lack of time, to no energy after work and being away on a couple of trips overseas. This has all lead to me deciding that it’s best to leave the gardening alone until the time, and hopefully energy, reappears. While this weekend has been one where my energy has been non-existent at all, more time has been available. Next weekend I will hopefully have energy and time to spare to actually start on some of my garden plans with some enthusiasm!

Nasturtiums-edible as well as ornamental

I am determined to have a really good garden this coming spring and summer that is both colourful and productive, with plants that I enjoy having around. All plants I am going to grow will be from seed, as I love the process of seed sowing and watching the germination and growth process from almost nothing into plants that provide flowers, fruits, vegetables and interesting shapes that plants plants can have.

I hope to get a good crop of tomatoes

The vegetables that I am going to grown this coming year are:

  • Tomatoes
  • Capsicums
  • Chillies
  • Strawberries
  • Sweetcorn
  • Onions
  • Beetroot
  • Broccoli
  • Pumpkin
  • Beans

The flowers/other plants I am going to grow are:

  • Flower mix for bees
  • Salvia
  • Sweet peas
  • Echeveria
  • Cosmos
  • Cleome
  • Mixed cacti seeds
  • Aloe valbalenii

All of this should keep me rather busy over the next few months, but in a good way. Some of these seeds could be sown today, but I am enjoying doing absolutely nothing-a rare luxury for me. Next weekend will be when I sow some of the seeds listed above, after doing some tidying up on my patio, which I can start in the evenings over this coming week when I get chance after work.

I hope to have a nice collection of echeverias over the next few months

As for variety of things like tomatoes, chillies, peppers, and pumpkins, I am not totally sure what varieties I will be growing yet. That’s something that I will likely decide as I am sowing seeds from my stash in a couple of months.

I hope to emulate the abundance I found in Hampton Court Palaces kitchen garden
