Orange fungi again

The weather has again been rather wet, which is a little tedious now. It’s not been heavy rain for the most part but we have still had 37.3mm today and that’s after 52mm yesterday.

The good thing about wet weather is that random mushrooms appear-today, I saw some more orange ones today. I’ve not seen many mushrooms this colour, apart from over the past couple of weeks.

I have also had orange flowers today, in the form of canna lilies. One of my jobs at work today was to tidy them up as all the dead stems of the plant were very untidy. I left all the new growth behind with the lovely purple leaves, all of these will eventually flower and the garden bed is a lot tidier!

This bromeliad is in the process of flowering too. I haven’t seen these imperial bromeliads (Alcanterea imperialis) flowering that often when I’m out and about, so it’s nice to see one doing so.

Walking back to the car today, I saw this cycad looking rather sorry for itself. What I have found where I work is that there are so many plants that have been put in the wrong place to grow, which is why only half the leaves on this particular cycad.

These plants can take up a decent amount of space, but why the plant wasn’t remove from this spot in its entirety is beyond me! I can’t say whether it was colleague or client in this situation, it wouldn’t surprise me either way-if I have my way, the plant will be removed and replanted elsewhere so it can regrow to the rather grand plant it should be!

A bad job done on the cycad

As a final thought for the day, these shell ginger (Alpinia zerumbet) leaves are quite pretty. If not well maintained, the plant as a whole can look quite messy, so removing the dead leaves as often as possible is important for a neat and tidy garden

That’s my day in a few plants and fungi. Overall, it wasn’t too bad a day as I was occupied with a few different jobs over the day-I can’t deal with the same job all the time!
