My joy for the day

Today started out a little wet, but I’d rather that than the humidity and hot sun combo that I ended up with from mid morning onwards! Today has been a really tough Monday for motivation, as many Monday’s are for many people. Which is why I’m aiming for simple things to cheer me up as I potter around at work trying to get stuff done!

First up, I’ll go for the big. The crown of this tree is looking great against the blue sky. It’s a eucalyptus tree that’s in flower, putting a smile on my face this morning as I was working nearby. I’m not sure of the species, but I like it all the same.

I’ve seen a few ladybirds today, which is a good thing. I went and checked the rose with the aphid problem on Friday and while there are still aphids about, there are a lot less. Those ladybirds are doing their job!

Speaking of roses, here is one I found earlier!

This particular specimens is a rather untidy plant that I’ve only ever seen in two places in Sydney-once by the coast in the suburb of Mosman and here where I currently work. It is a firecracker plant. I like the flowers more than anything, but also it’s messy nature-I think there is a need for such a plant in every garden and I have two at work so I’m happy!

Finally, I found this little vine growing through a hedge. I did have to remove it, but thought the leaves of this Virginia creeper were rather pretty and as it is a weed here in Sydney, it’s for the best before it takes over completely!

Even though I struggled to be motivated into doing any work today, there were things that I enjoyed having a look at when I should have been working! I also saw at least three different species of butterflies and bees around any flowers out at the moment. In many ways I can’t complain too much!
