Today has been a very warm day by comparison to the last couple of weeks. The maximum temperature at work today has been 24.8 degrees Celsius, but it feels a whole lot hotter. It isn’t even that humid today, it’s sitting at around 56%. To be honest though, the sun here in Australia is so strong, some days you feel as though you will literally fry and turn crispy!
Working at a school means that you often have to work on a more freestyle schedule than you would like-you can have grand plans for the day in a certain area, but have to change those because something is happening there. They don’t want the gardener anywhere near, too much loud noise and dirt around! It was the opposite today.
At the moment, the year twelve students across Australia are doing their last exams before they leave school. Where I work didn’t have any of these exams today, which meant I could make lots of noise with hedgers and blowers! The lawn mowers were also out in force too. I got the required hedging done which I am happy about!
Today, while I was hedging, I did find some camellia leaf fall on the camellia., which I’ve written about here: https://flat-cap-gardener.com/2022/10/14/camellia-leaf-gall/. This problem is more of an aesthetic thing than anything major, but it really doesn’t look nice on the new growth, so any that didn’t come off with the hedger, I cut out the rest afterwards with my secateurs.
I also found this praying mantis on my hedger, which I got a little excited about. I’m happy to be a little strange to be honest-I’m of the view we should always have something to get excited by or that makes us smile on a regular basis. The bees were also out and about on the roses and lavender, loving the sunshine.
