My plants of the week

As I like to do on a Friday, I’m going to share some plant photos with you. First up is this wattle. Today, I came across this wonderful wattle, looking fabulous in the sunshine with the flowers also smelling really good. The number of times I walked past this tree a couple of years ago and never noticed it makes me wonder where my head was-clearly not looking at this tree is the answer! I

I keep about this little purple coral pea plant at the moment, usually because of the lovely purple flowers. I bound this small plant yesterday and thought I would show you its habit when it has no support for climbing-it trails delicately along the ground.

Next I have a little plant called common ramping-fumitory. I’ve never come across this little plant before, but I find the flowers rather pretty.

This agapanthus flower head has come out rather early-weirdly early. I thought that I’d get a close-up of one of the flowers in the rain yesterday.

These thefts are Lomandra longifolia ‘Tanika’. It is a fine-leaved scrappy plant that I like in a small mass planting. The only trouble is that it is getting to the point where it’s getting overused although this does show that it is a tough plant for Australian gardens.

Purple flowers are the flowers of the moment. This little plant is New Zealand hebe, which is a lovely shrub I’ve only just come across in the past month or so. I love having to learn about new plants-learning in horticulture can be a life-long process if you want really engage with it. It also stops me getting really bored!

The bark in the picture below is included just because I love gum trees in general. The bark varies widely in the genus, especially as the bark shreds in the spring as there are a range of colours on show.

Thankfully, my week has been a fairly good one, despite my hands smelling of society garlic (Thulbagia violacea) which has a really strong garlic smell after weeding around them earlier!
