The start to my week

With winter now upon us, it has turned into a sunny day, which is a relief after all the rain we had over the weekend. That’s always a good start for me-sunny and cool or cold days are my favourite sort of day.

My working day has involved a lot of clearing leaves out of garden beds and off paths. There are some plane trees at work, which are very messy when they are losing their leaves.

I’ve also got started on the weeding of certain garden beds that haven’t had a huge amount of attention recently. One plant that I found today that I hadn’t noticed before was Mexican sunflower, mainly because of its bright yellow flowers which do look great. The trouble is is that it is an invasive weed here in Australia so will have to be removed.

On having a potter through garden beds for weeds, I also came across some seedlings of the hoop pine, Araucaria cunninghamii.

These seedlings came from this magnificent adult tree.

I found these mushrooms growing on a tree stump too. I really don’t know what species they are, but they look interesting.

A camellia flower that is looking great. At this time of year, camellias are coming in to their own and looking fabulous.
