A dreary day in Sydney

The weather in Sydney has been rather annoying this week-we have had several days of showers, which gets boring really quick when you work outside! The constant stop-start makes any job feel like years, even if it’s only half an hour.

As the skies have been grey and my week beyond dull, I have decided to show some plants from my week. I show some of the flower I’m including really frequently but that is due to the fact that I think they look great.

These little flowers are off the potato vine, or Solanum laxum. This is in the nightshade family, so is related to things like potatoes, tomatoes and chillies. The flowers are cute, although the plant can be a bit weedy.

I love the flowers of Chinese hibiscus, or Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. They are showy and flash, come in a huge range of bright colours and are great to look at.

Again, roses are a common theme, but why not? I always enjoy being around roses, for the different flower colours, the smell and also seeing all the bees, ladybirds and other insects doing their thing.

Camellias are coming into their own at the moment here in Sydney. While white is not my favourite colour, i thought that this was a really pretty camellia flower.

Grevilleas are great flowers that make me think of Australia straight away. These lovely red grevillea flowers are really pretty. Don’t ask me to identify what species or cultivar it is though as there are so many!

These leaves are new growth on Viburnum odoratissimum. These leaves are the really pretty new growth. I mostly see this as a hedge, which is really the wrong use for this plant as the leaves are quite big. I prefer it in its natural form as a tree.
