Plants from my week

Flowers are lovely things to see, so again I’m sharing some with you. First up we have some crysanthemums.

Chrysanthemums

Frangipani flowers are a favourite of mine as they are simple but quite elegant in my eyes. You don’t always need blowsy and over-the-top showiness in anything for it to look good! I can never decide whether I like the yellow and white flowers more or the pink ones-every time I see those two colours I think that it’s my favourite, then change my mind completely when I see the other.

Roses are always popular with all kinds of people. The flowers are pretty, of course, but maintaining them can be painful, quite literally! The number of times I get pricked by their thorns does get annoying, unfortunately. Thankfully, I’ve had some very nice fragrances to smell this week, especially from the rose in the middle picture, which is why I took a photo of this particular one.

Here in Sydney, we are now back into camellia flower season. These are flowers that I do enjoy looking at. This is probably the first of many camellia flowers over the next few months.

This rats nest of a mess below is part of a fig tree. These are some roots growing down from the tree’s branches. If you have read my posts before, you will know I find fig trees fascinating, and it’s mainly for this reason. I find the odd interesting, of which the plant world has plenty!

Finally, I thought I would include a picture of mushrooms, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, fungi are often the hidden hero’s of the garden in that they help plants to gain the nutrients they need and they also help to decompose dead plant material (and animals) which returns all sorts on nutrients back into a state where they can be used by plants again (to name two ways). Mushrooms are also one of my favourite foods. I don’t have a clue whether the ones in the picture are edible and wouldn’t even try eating them-if you do go foraging for mushrooms, please make sure you know what you are doing.

I hope you enjoy looking at some photos from my week. As usual, all photos are my own.
