Thankfully, the sun has appeared again today after the rain earlier in the week. The poppies that had a bit of squashing due to the rain are not upright, but the tops of them have turned up towards the sky. As I don’t have enough spare stakes to tie them up, they will have to stay a bit wonky. Thankfully, the flower bud that appeared last week is still there and growing nicely, so I’m hoping for a flower soon! The plant pot that got a but flooded is all good-the plants in there are still alive and growing (its only been three days since this rain, but the plants are bigger).

The seeds I have sown are brussels sprouts, beetroot, broccoli, spring onions, cauliflower, cabbage, celery and sunflowers. For the broccoli, cauliflower, one variety of beetroot and the celery they should have been sown in the spring, so those seedlings will have to be kept in areas of my little garden that get less of the mid-day sun to see if they will be able to cope with the summer heat enough to grow large enough to deal with the summer heat. With my gardening, I like to experiment and see what I can get away with!

With my other plants, all my tomatoes are going good and growing well. I have plenty of flowers on my cucumber plant and one of my tomatoes, the other tomatoes and cucurbits are all thriving. My chilli and capsicum plants are also coming on well, as are my beetroot and bean plants. Also, my jade plant has become less floppy again this week.
Some of my plants do have holes in their leaves from some little beasties of some sort. I haven’t seen many of these critters around. Some people would immediately get out the pesticide sprays and get to work, but this is pointless, unless you know what it is that is doing the damage and you actually spray it when the insects in question are still there. I am not bothered by a few holy leaves, and I also want to encourage what are considered ‘good’ insects so spraying insecticides isn’t the best idea anyway.
As it is now Christmas, I have a few days off work so I plan on getting my patio area tidy and clean, which it isn’t at the moment. There are also some seedlings that still need potting up too, which will also get done at some point over the next few days.
