Today, there has been 32.1mm of rain at home since 9am. When I came home from work, I found my poppy plants looking incredibly sad and miserable!

When I saw these plants yesterday, they were stood up properly and were completely fine. I’m hoping that with little rain coast for tomorrow, they will manage to get themselves upright again! Having never grown them before, I’m not sure how that will turn out. If I have to, I’ll move a few stakes around tomorrow afternoon to give them some extra help.
Also having a slight drama in the garden from the rain were some of my tomatoes. This tub was a little flooded so I had to get rid of some of this! The tub they are sat in were next to the poppies. I think the problem must have been water dripping from the roof somewhere as well as the rain!

I hope that these tomato plants survive this little flood, but time will tell. When soil gets flooded, oxygen doesn’t get down to the plant roots. Just like any other living cells, root cells need to respire to survive and function correctly. Most plants have little, if any, tolerance to waterlogged soils (while others have special adaptations to these conditions) so I’m not sure how the tomatoes will cope!
All other plants obviously got a good drink but didn’t receive any other damage from what I saw briefly when I was outside, thankfully! Hopefully, my little garden will survive the rest of a wet week.
