A hot December week

This week has been really warm here in Sydney, with a couple of days over 35 degrees Celsius. Despite the heat, there are some pictures of plants that I’d like to share.

First is the bark of a Eucalyptus tree, where the bark is having its annual shedding event. I find this process fascinating-just the fact that every year these trees lose their bark and it causes no harm at all, when this would kill other tree species.

I found these delightful flowers yesterday when I was out walking. They are Gazinia rigens I believe. Around here, you don’t often see these in a mass planting so it’s nice to have something different planted in a roadside setting.

Neat we have the open seed pod of Castanospermum australe, also known as the Moreton Bay Chestnut tree.

I love the colour of the rose below, which is why I’ve included it.

Two Gazinia flowers

Above are two more Gazinia flowers, just because they look pretty.
