Every gardener has failures along the way. I do think that you can’t call yourself a gardener unless you’ve had some plant related disaster along the way!
For me, there have been several of these at home over the course of the past year or so. I bought a small lavender plant earlier this year. Unfortunately, the plant that I bought is no longer alive. I don’t really know what I did wrong at all, but there we go!
Another failure is my lack of success with broccoli so far. All seedlings that I have managed to grow are now dead. I found some very tiny bugs eating the leaves. I couldn’t see them well enough to tell what they were, so I ended up with no broccoli seedlings!
I have also managed to kill an orchid recently too, which is a shame. It may be that I gave it a bit too much water. When I have a bit more time, I’m going to try again and learn a bit more about them to be able to grow them well as I do think that orchids have amazing plants.

So how do I move on from my failures in gardening? Firstly, don’t dwell on the past-it’s happened so leave it alone! I usually go out into my garden and enjoy what is growing well at the time in question.I have a cosmos that has pretty flowers out, my tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkins, onions, beetroot, cacti, poppies and other seedlings are all growing well (although I’m still waiting for flowers on my poppies). I just enjoy watching them grow. I love the act of gardening itself, so just being outside caring for my plants, allowing me to empty my brain of disappointment! Finally, start growing something again. This can be sowing some seeds or planting out a new plant that you know how to care for to rebuild your confidence, or it can be something that you have always wanted to grow and have decided that now is the time to have a go!

The main thing to remember, whether you have a bit of a gardening fail or an amazing success, is to enjoy the process. Gardening and plants can bring us all a lot of joy. For each person that gardens, there are as many reasons for enjoying it, whether it is growing flowers for the home, food for the table or a garden to relax in at the end of a busy day. Get back out in the garden and enjoy!
