What’s happened this week

I haven’t had a huge amount of time this week to do much, but I have finally managed to plant my peas (Pisum sativum) and my sweet peas.

Where I live, don’t really see fresh peas in the fresh fruit and veg section of the supermarket. One of my favourites are fresh peas, straight from the pods. It also brings back many happy memories from being a kid with my cousins helping my grandparents in their vegetable patch. This is why the first food I’m growing is peas. The type I am growing are called ‘Greenfeast’, which is a dwarf bush variety that produces juicy, sweet peas for shelling and then eating. Several peas (which are the seeds) have been planted in a long pot, I’ll post some pictures once they have germinated.

I have also planted three different varieties of sweet pea (Lathyrus odoratus) in a pot. I’ve put them all together so that I hopefully get a mix of colours all jumbled together, along with a lovely smell! The varieties are:

  • ‘America’-an heirloom variety with ivory flowers that have crimson streaks through them
  • ‘Flora Norton’-have a pale blue flower and a nice fragrance
  • ‘My Navy’-have a lovely blue flower
