As mentioned a couple of days ago, I am doing a snail patrol every day to make sure I now get as little snail damage as possible in my garden. There is not a lot to report at the moment, I do have to say!

On looking today, I only found one snail. The little guy was on one of the stakes that some of my beans are growing up. It was only small, but it did get promptly removed. Looking everywhere else around my garden, I couldn’t see anything snail-shaped. This is great, but I’m not relying on that as a new normal. I can assure you some will appear over the next few days!

Elsewhere in my garden, I haven’t had anymore plants eaten, they look good. My sugar snap peas, beans, onions and nasturtiums are all growing really well.

The one whole broccoli plant that survived the snail decimation while I was in Tasmania has been potted up. When it first got potted up, it got put into a coir pot. Roots of this little plant were growing down the outside of this pot, so I thought it about time to move it into something bugger. As my nasturtiums have not been touched by the snails, I put the broccoli in with some of them. I’m hoping that whatever the nasturtiums have that broccoli normally doesn’t is passed on to the broccoli, just because they are in the same pots.

My strawberry plants are also doing well. There is plenty of new growth on them. I am hoping to have plenty of alpine strawberries later in the year!

I do have a couple of jobs to do over the next few days. My beans need a little more staking as they have grown well since they were last staked a few weeks ago. I also need to do some sweeping up again, something I hate doing, but if I do it frequently enough it doesn’t take as long! I just need to remember that! I will also start organising what I am going to start growing for the spring and summer. The earlier that I get this done, the more organised I can be in starting to sow the seeds and not have a mad dash to do it all at once.

That is all the news that I have from my garden for today, 12th July 2026. I am happy that I’m not moaning about things going wrong today-I need to ensure I check my garden every day over the next few weeks!
