Nasturtium seeds have arrived!

A few days ago, I ordered some nasturtium seeds. These have now arrived so it was a very good excuse to get out into the garden to do some gardening, even though I’ve spent all day gardening at work!

The varieties of nasturtium that I ordered include:

  • Orchid Cream
  • Purple Emporer
  • Orchid Flame
  • Ladybird
  • Back Velvet
My seeds of choice

I was really excited about the idea of having lots of nasturtium flowers in all theirbright, colourful glory, so I got out and did some seed sowing after work today. Even though I did sow the last of my previous ‘Orchid Cream’ and ‘Purple Emperor’ seeds about ten to fourteen days ago, I sowed more of each today, along with the other three varieties. The seedlings of that first sowing are growing really well.

I can’t wait for more colours like these

While I was out in my garden, I had a look around at my other plants. My strawberry plants are all still alive. Three are doing well, one to the point that it has new growth on it. The fourth plant isn’t looking too great at the moment. As with all plants in the garden, you don’t always have a 100% survival rate! As long as I get two surviving strawberry plants, then I’m happy enough.

New growth on my strawberry plant

My little onions are still alive. They are a lot greener than they were when I potted them up a couple of weeks ago. Some are starting to stand up straight again, after looking a little floppy.

With my Brussels sprouts and broccoli, I have had no more snail damage since the weekend. I’m really happy about this as I do want to have some home-grown sprouts and broccoli for cooking! They have continued to grow well this week.

Broccoli and Brussels sprouts have no more damage

I still have two random grub type things on my broad beans. I still have no idea what they are, apart from ugly! I do want to know what they are though, which is why they are still there.

Weird and ugly grub thing

My random potato plants are growing well still, although the peas in with them aren’t doing too well at all due to snail damage. My other peas (‘Franks Pea’ and ‘Purple Podded Dutch’ varieties) are still growing well. I hope they continue to do so as I really want some peas too.

Potatoes are hopefully getting bigger under these leaves!

My jade plants are also really happy. Since being potted up a while ago, they have some new growth appearing. I do love jade plants as they require so little effort while looking really good. Neither one of them has flowered since I’ve had them (one was a cutting and one was a rescue from the bin room), and Id love them to do so-they have such a lovely smell.

As for the weather today, we have had a mostly sunny day. Our high temperature was 18.8 degrees Celsius, while our low temperature was 13.7 degrees Celsius. These temperatures aren’t too bad for June, which is the first month of winter. We have had no rain today so far.

So that’s my garden for today. I do plan on being out again over the weekend, pottering about and hopefully enjoying the fresh air!
