Over the past couple of days, I have done a bit of pottering in the garden again, which has been enjoyable. I haven’t been really tired from work, so I have had some energy to do something outside, rather than just looking for snails and removing them, even though I have done that too!

Yesterday, I decided that I would also order some more nasturtium seeds. I love the flowers of nasturtiums-the colours are always bright and cheerful, and their form is also quite interesting. I ordered the following different varieties:

• ‘Ladybird’
• ‘Black Velvet’
• ‘Purple Emporer’
• ‘Orchid Cream’
• Orchid Flame’

Last weekend, or the weekend before, I sowed the last few seedlings of nasturtiums that I did have and a few have now germinated, which I am happy about. If all goes well, I will have plenty of nasturtiums growing around my patio area.

I have also used up some more seeds from my seed collection. I had a few Pea ‘Greenfeast’ seeds left, so they have all been sown. I also used up some of the sugar snap pea seeds from a packet that I had open. I had a few pots that are now empty of plants, so I may as well use them for peas of various forms!

My broccoli and Brussels sprouts seedlings are still growing really well. I am still amazed by the fact that not one of them has been eaten by a snail! I may actually get a crop of brassicas this year!

My alpine strawberry seedlings are starting to look a lot happier now. They seem to be settling in and getting their roots out into the potting mix now. They have been looking a little floppy over the week, but this morning they have all got a lot more perky!

The onions that have been inside are now in the process of getting hardened off. It isn’t that cold but compared to indoors, it probably is for some onion seedlings! I’ll bring them indoors for the next couple of nights and then they can stay outside.

This morning, I spent a bit of time organising my ‘Franks Pea’ plants. They had got rather floppy, as climbers often do if they have no stakes. They all have some form of support, mainly because I want them to get as much sun as they possibly can. I’m glad I sorted them out this morning as I found a snail having a good feed-it promptly got its marching orders!

I need to do the same with these ‘Purple Podded Dutch’ pea plants too, but I ran out of twine to do them this morning. When I go out later on, I’ll pop in to the shop to get some more on my way past and sort them out either this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

My beans are happily growing with very little bothering them at the moment. They haven’t got any flowers at the moment, but I don’t think it will be too far off. I’m hoping to get some beans of these plants.

I am hoping for success with these bean seedling that have germinated over the past few days too. We shall see!

My cornflower seedlings are growing really well. They will need some potting up in the next couple of weeks, which I am looking forward to doing. I really want to get some more flowers in my garden over the next few months.

More seedlings that are getting going are these cacti seedlings. I don’t know what species they are as the seed packet said ‘mixed cacti seeds’ on it.I am made up that they are growing well so far. As I have really struggled to keep any cacti seedlings alive once germinated, I am going to really care for these ones. This is especially the case as I want to know what species they are!

That is my gardening update for the last couple of days. I still have lots that I want to do out there, with some more getting done tomorrow.
