A visit to Brisbane-I didn’t have to leave the ship to enjoy myself!

Travelling can sometimes throw up some surprises that aren’t expected. My visit to Brisbane in Australia on a cruise ship was good as I could stand on my balcony and see interesting stuff. I did leave the ship and enjoyed the city itself, but here are what I enjoyed while on the ship.

The tiny little bird resting on the cable is really small, but was quite happy sat there. I have no idea what species it is, but is was nice to see.

Random tiny bird

I could have stayed on board the ship and watched the pelicans all day. They are such funny-looking birds and not one that I see every day at home. I enjoyed their antics whilst there. Here are my four favourite photos of pelicans form the day, especially the last one where they are sleeping.

Going for a swim
Flying near the airport
Flying over the water
A pod (term used when resting) of pelicans

There was also an area of trees and marsh behind the beach where I saw the pelicans. It was really nice to see some greenery, as I was only expecting to see an industrial area here.

Trees always put a smile on my face
I like marshes too-there is something more wild about these areas

Another form of birdlife I saw at the port was a pigeon resting on one of the gangway gantries. While pigeons are often a pest and considered dirty, they do have very pretty feathers, like the purple ones on this busy individual.

The purple feathers are nice on this busy pigeon.

That is the wildlife of the area local to the cruise terminal in Brisbane. I was more than happy just sitting and watching the wildlife without going there. For me, sitting and watching is one of the best things about travelling-you see far ore than racing around like a headless chicken!
