My gardening over the previous weekend has been more of a tidying-up session rather than gardening. The hot weather we have had over recent weeks has taken its toll on several of my plants. I still have plants doing well, but this summer has been rather harsh on my little patio garden.

I’ll start with my sweetcorn, as most of my corn plants have turned a little crispy over the past couple of weeks. I removed the most damaged plants and managed to get two of the tiniest cobs of corn I have ever seen!

I do have some sweetcorn plants left in my garden. Some may give me some cobs of corn, and hopefully biggr than those in the picture above. I do have a couple of corn plants that haven’t been affected at all by the hot weather, but I am going to talk about why I think that is in a seperate post. I should hopefully see some tassels on these soon.
My older tomato plants are mostly removed now, as they were really beyond help. One or two have new growth on them, so I have kept them to see if I can get any more tomatoes. My tomato harvest has been as woeful as my corn harvest this year too-I’ve had five so far!

I have a couple of other tomato plants with my corn plants that did have a couple of tomatoes on, These have disappeared, not doubt because of a bird or two. There are signs of flower buds, so there is a chance of a few tomatoes before winter.
It isn’t all negative in my little garden though, as I have some plants growing well. I have a few brassicas growing well, including one and the same plant pot as the corn and tomatoes that are doing well.

I’ve also got my borage plant growing really well.

I have a few pots in my garden that I haven’t done anything with this growing season. It is laziness on my part. One of these pots now has a fern growing in it. I don’t know where it has come from, but I like it. I will have to find out what species it is when I get a chance.

Before I forget, my dahlia is going fabulous. I have two flowers open at the moment and lots of flower buds, so I am really happy with this.

That’s all for my garden at the moment. I will be looking at what I want to grow over autumn and winter in the hope I get more success than I have so far this summer!
