Simple things are fun to me

List five things you do for fun.

For me, fun isn’t about going to a party, shopping or what is often seen as I ‘should’ enjoy. I prefer spending my time doing quieter things in my spare time, so here are my top five.

Sewing is one thing I really enjoy. I use my hands in the process-I like keeping my hands busy. My mind becomes focused on the job at hand so I forget about my worries and I don’t have to go clothes shopping as I make them myself. There is nothing more demoralising than clothes shopping so not having to do it is, in some ways, the most fun part!

Reading is another fun hobby that I have. I can get transported into strange, new and fabulous worlds or learn about pretty much anything that I want to, just by opening a book.

Books open new worlds

Gardening at home is great. I grow a small amount of food for myself and my family as well as some flowers. The process itself is part of the enjoyment, in that seeing life appear from a simple seed is amazing to me.

Bush walking is something that I find relaxing, both mentally and physically. Escaping from built-up Sydney into the relative quietness of a national park to be surrounded by trees is heaven. No cars, few people and no drama are what I enjoy. There are also interesting sights and sounds to be found as well as a bit of exercise.

I enjoy travelling when I get chance. Seeing new places and things, trying new food and getting pushed out of my comfort zone are fun. The world can be, and often is, an amazing place to explore and I enjoy seeing as much as possible.

Visiting London last year was great fun

These are my top five enjoyable things. Travel, whether in person or through books, using my hands and spending time in, and around, nature are what makes my life sing.
