On a rather cloudy and miserable Saturday morning, it was time to do some vegetable gardening. I got out into my little garden to do an inspection of my plants and do any jobs that needed doing. I’ve aso done a little of the fun gardening stuff. All sweeping and tidying up was done during the week, which I am glad about as I really dont like doing it!
Garden inspection
My inspection has revealed that snails and/or slugs have been at work again. Last week, I recieved two dahlia plants through the post which were promptly planted. I found that one of the two plants has now been demolished by the snails, along with my corriander seedlings for the second time. I’m really not happy! Out of five dahlias, I have two growing well now, including the one remaining one I recieved last week-this one is Dahlia ‘Florelie Raspberry Cheescake’. I will have to check for snails again tonight-last night, I was so tired after work I fell asleep in my chair and didn’t do anyhing in the garden!
Now that the negatives are out of the way, what has been going really well this week? My beans have been growing well-the snails have stayed away, or at least they have for now! I am really happy about this-I may get beans after all. Both sowings of potatoes are growing really well, with my husband being really excited by the idea of some new potatoes.

My two remaining dahlias are both happy so far this week, as are the beetroot, sweetcorn, and onions, including those sat on by Cuddles the cat!

Several tomato plants have flower buds on now, which I am really excited by as tomatoes are one of my favourites!

I’m also pleased to note that a couple of my brassicas are showing signs of re-growth after being snacked on by snails!

Seed sowing
One of the tasks I enjoy most about vegetable gardening (and gardening in general) is seed sowing. I did do some seed sowing today-I sowed chilli, capsicum and melon seeds. I am currently having little success with these plants this year and would love some of all three for the kitchen.
Weather over this week
it has been a generally warm and sometimes humid week, with rain forecast all weekend. our high temperature over the past week was 36.3 degrees Celsius, with the low temperature being 17.8 degrees Celsius. So far, we have had 11.4 mm of rain. As it is currently raining outside, we are due for a fair amount more!
while not a very busy gardening week, I like to make note of what is happening. Even if no-one reads my gardening posts, I can look back on them see what has changed and what I can do differently. This is a very useful resource to have-every growing season is different in some way. The experience all adds up, as memory is not always as accurate or as good as I’d like!

Those snails are just nasty buggers, aren’t they? I hope you can find a solution to dealing with them. For us, it took a drought and heat waves. *sigh*
I’ve been using my blog to journal about our garden, too, and it’s come in very handy! I’ve gone back to old posts, more than a few times, to look things up again.
They really are-I’m going to do some reading this weekend as I really don’t want to be using chemicals in my garden, but I’m also sick of plants going missing!
Hopefully, I can find a helpful solution.
