After a busy week at work and at home, here are my flowers of the week.
Butterfly bush, or Gaura lindheimeri, is a favourite of mine. The flowers come in a range of pinks and white and attract pollinators like there’s no tomorrow-although I see far more bees than butterflies. Either way, I love having this plant around as it grows quickly, it’s colourful, attracts insects, is a more informal species plant that’s good in cottage style gardens and it moves in the wind (something that I think is often lacing in gardens).

I’ve shown Dietes flowers a few times recently, but I do really like the flowers quite a lot. They are showy without being too colourful.

One thing I love about spring is hydrangea flowers. As a kid I always thought hydrangeas were for old ladies, now that I’m older (but not old), I like them so much more. Here are today’s hydrangeas.

This next plant is probably a Bauhinia, or orchid tree, but I’m not sure which one-it’s something I’m going to look at when I’m at home as the internet is giving me conflicting names. I’m hoping my books can help! Either way, I like both the leaves and flowers, with the flowers really catching my eye.

Now for the flowers of a lily pilly. In the first picture are the stamens starting to open up, the second where they are fully on show. I’ve never seen these flowers in the process of opening wanted a closer look!

Canna lilies always have bright flowers. While yellow is far from my favourite colour, it’s nice to see one that’s not orange or red!

Bears breeches, or Acanthus mollis, is another favourite of mine.

Mandevilla flowers are always lovely, especially this red colour. A rather cheerful addition to a dull, wet day.

Grevillea flowers never fail to put a smile on my face. I always have a lot of favourite flowers, but I think these are my all-time favourite flowers. I love their form and the range of colours they come in too.

Brush box, or Lophostemon confertus flowers are really pretty. This tree is native to Queensland and is great for large landscapes.

That’s all for my weekly flowers. Plenty of colour and different flower forms that keep it interesting.
